Target Information
In mice, secretagogin plays a role in regulating insulin secretion, maintaining neuronal function, managing pain, and potentially serving as a disease marker. Mice lacking secretagogin (KO mice) exhibit reduced insulin secretion and impaired glucose tolerance. In the mouse brain, secretagogin is primarily expressed in the olfactory bulb, hippocampus, and thalamus, potentially contributing significantly to olfactory, visual, and cognitive functions. For instance, in the olfactory bulb, secretagogin expression is associated with olfactory function, while in the hippocampus, secretagogin regulates the asynchrony and synchrony of synaptic release, which may influence learning and memory abilities.
