Target Information
Immunoglobulin G (IgG) is a type of antibody that constitutes about 75% of serum antibodies in humans, making it the most prevalent antibody in blood circulation. IgG can bind to pathogens, preventing them from infecting cells. IgG coats pathogens, making them more easily recognized and engulfed by phagocytes (immune cells that ingest and destroy foreign particles). IgG can trigger the complement system, a cascade of proteins that leads to the destruction of pathogens. In experimental visceral leishmaniasis of hamsters, IgG may play a role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory processes in the lung and liver.
