Target Information

The glucose-6-phosphatase catalytic subunit 1 is responsible for hydrolyzing glucose-6-phosphate to glucose within the endoplasmic reticulum. It collaborates with the glucose-6-phosphate transporter (SLC37A4/G6PT) to form the complex essential for glucose production in the final steps of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, making it a critical enzyme for maintaining blood glucose homeostasis. G6PC knockout mice (e.g., G6pc−/−) exhibit severe hypoglycemia, accompanied by hepatic steatosis and cirrhosis. The function of G6PC is modulated by various metabolic signals, such as insulin and fructose intake, which influence its expression and activity.
