Target Information
Kidney injury molecule 1 (which is also known as KIM-1) is classified as a type I membrane protein, consisting of an extracellular domain and a cytoplasmic domain. Typically, its expression in the kidney is minimal. However, KIM-1 is significantly upregulated during the initial phases of tubular injury. The assessment of KIM-1 levels in the urine of canine patients has proven effective in identifying naturally occurring acute and subacute leptospirosis, which is associated with tubular injury in the early stages of non-azotemic infections.
