Target Information
Scavenger receptor cysteine-rich type 1 protein M130 (CD163) plays a crucial role in the uptake and endocytosis of hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes by macrophages, which helps protect tissues from oxidative damage caused by free hemoglobin. It is also involved in iron uptake and recycling by endocytosing hemoglobin/haptoglobin and breaking down heme. This key immune-related protein is instrumental in regulating macrophage functions, inflammatory responses, and contributing to the tumor microenvironment. Predominantly expressed by macrophages, CD163 is essential for clearing hemoglobin-hemocyanin complexes and participates in various processes related to immune regulation and inflammation.
