Target Information

Forkhead box protein P3 (Foxp3) is a transcriptional regulator critical for the development and inhibitory function of regulatory T-cells (Treg). It plays a vital role in maintaining immune system homeostasis by ensuring the full suppressive function and stability of the Treg lineage and by directly influencing the expansion and function of conventional T-cells. Depending on its interactions with other transcription factors, histone acetylases, and deacetylases, Foxp3 can function as either a transcriptional repressor or activator. In mice, Foxp3 serves as a core regulator of regulatory T-cell development and function, and its normal expression is crucial for maintaining immune tolerance and preventing autoimmune diseases.
