Target Information

Pancreatic α-amylase is a crucial enzyme for breaking down starch, primarily catalyzing the conversion of polysaccharides like starch into smaller oligosaccharides and monosaccharides, including maltose and glucose. This enzyme is vital in the digestive systems of mammals, such as mice, as it is secreted from the pancreas into the small intestine to aid in the digestion of starchy foods. In mice, the role of Amylase Alpha 2 (α-amylase 2) is mainly focused on the expression and regulation of amylase in the pancreas. Research indicates that the mouse α-amylase gene (Amylase 2) exhibits specific expression patterns across different mouse strains. The expression of this gene is hormonally regulated, with evidence showing that glucocorticoids positively influence the expression of the α-amylase gene in the mouse pancreas.
