Target Information
The fibrinogen gamma chain, in conjunction with fibrinogen alpha (FGA) and fibrinogen beta (FGB), polymerizes to form an insoluble fibrin matrix, a critical component of blood clots, playing a major role in hemostasis. Additionally, fibrin is involved in the early stages of wound healing, helping to stabilize the lesion and guide cell migration during re-epithelialization. Research has shown that a loss of function or mutations in the fibrinogen gamma chain lead to significant defects in thrombosis and hemostasis in mice. In Fib gamma delta 5 mice, thrombosis is accelerated within atherosclerotic plaques, though the resulting thrombi are smaller and more fragile.
