Target Information
Fibrinogen, also known as coagulation factor I, is a glycoprotein complex produced in the liver that circulates in the blood of all vertebrates. In the event of tissue and vascular injury, thrombin enzymatically converts fibrinogen into fibrin, leading to the formation of a fibrin-based blood clot. In dogs, fibrinogen functions as an acute phase protein, and elevated levels indicate a systemic inflammatory response. In addition, fibrinogen has been used to develop novel hemostatic techniques. Fibrinogen is not only involved in blood clotting, but also interacts with a variety of other biomolecules.
