Target Information

Interleukin-22 receptor subunit alpha-2 serves as a receptor for IL22. It binds to IL22, preventing its interaction with the functional IL-22R complex, thereby inhibiting IL22's activity in vitro. It potentially acts as an IL22 antagonist, playing a significant role in regulating inflammatory responses. In mice, the function of IL22RA2 (IL-22 binding protein 2) is largely associated with the IL-22BP it encodes-a soluble IL-22 receptor that inhibits IL-22's biological activity by competing for its ligand, IL-22. Mice with an IL22ra2 gene knockout (Il22ra2−/−) exhibit more severe skin inflammation, such as psoriasis-like symptoms, characterized by thickening of the stratum corneum, scaling, keratinization of hair follicles, and the formation of microabscesses.
