Target Information
Patatin-Like Phospholipase Domain-Containing Protein 2 is encoded by the PNPLA2 gene in mice. It catalyzes the initial step of triglyceride hydrolysis in lipid droplets of both adipocytes and non-adipocytes. The protein shows a strong preference for hydrolyzing long-chain fatty acid esters at the sn-2 position of the glycerol backbone and works in coordination with LIPE/HLS and DGAT2 within the lipolytic cascade. The functions of PNPLA2 in mice cover many aspects such as lipid metabolism, energy homeostasis, liver and heart health, neurological function, and immune response. Its deletion or dysfunction can lead to the development of multiple metabolic and degenerative diseases.
