Target Information

Visfatin is a hormone produced by fat cells, closely linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus through its plasma levels. It interacts with the insulin receptor at a different site than insulin, leading to hypoglycemia by decreasing glucose release from liver cells and enhancing glucose uptake in fat and muscle cells. Research on Visfatin has focused on its mimicry of insulin-like effects and its potential role in metabolic regulation. In addition, PBEF (pre-B-cell proliferation factor), a protein expressed in multiple cell types with anti-apoptotic functions and up-regulated under inflammatory and infectious conditions, has been shown to correlate with Visfatin.
