Claudin 3 is encoded by the CLDN3 gene in pigs. It is a ubiquitous barrier-forming protein. It is suggested to modulate cell migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. Its upregulation may modulate regeneration of the tubules following injury. As a member of the claudin protein family. It plays a crucial role in tight junctions, which are essential for cell-to-cell adhesion in epithelial or endothelial cell sheets.
