Target Information
N(6)-Carboxymethyllysine (CML) is an advanced glycation endproduct (AGE). CML is generated when the amino acid lysine reacts with reducing sugars (such as glucose or fructose). CML is associated with oxidative stress, inflammation, and age-related diseases. It accumulates in tissues and contributes to the pathogenesis of conditions like diabetes, atherosclerosis, and kidney disease. CML can be generated in large quantities not only through the Maillard reaction, but also through the oxidation pathway such as lipid oxidation.
