Target Information
Basic helix-loop-helix ARNT-like protein 1, also known as Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Nuclear Translocator Like Protein or BMAL1, is a transcriptional activator that is a core component of the circadian clock. BMAL1 plays a crucial role in regulating biological rhythms, and its absence results in circadian rhythm disorders. For instance, BMAL1−/− mice exhibit a loss of behavioral rhythms, reduced activity levels, and a shortened lifespan. Furthermore, restoring BMAL1 in specific tissues, such as the brain or muscle, can partially recover circadian rhythms, although other issues like weight loss and decreased activity levels may persist.
