Target Information
Protein S100-A4, a calcium-binding protein, is involved in several cellular functions such as motility, angiogenesis, cell differentiation, apoptosis, and autophagy. In mice, S100-A4 (also known as Mts1) has roles in tumor metastasis, immune regulation, inflammatory responses, as well as the regulation of metabolism and the nervous system. This protein is crucial for the immune system as it influences immune cell functions by interacting with Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). For instance, mice that lack S100-A4 exhibit decreased mast cell activation in an allergic asthma model, leading to a diminished inflammatory response.
