Target Information

Fractalkine is a chemokine that serves as a ligand for CX3CR1 and integrins ITGAV:ITGB3 and ITGA4:ITGB1, playing a key role in regulating leukocyte adhesion and migration at the endothelium. It can activate integrins through both CX3CR1-dependent and independent mechanisms. In mice, Fractalkine (FKN) is primarily involved in interactions with its receptor, CX3CR1. Research indicates that Fractalkine is crucial in the central nervous system (CNS) by binding to CX3CR1, facilitating the chemotactic migration and activation of microglia. In mouse models, Fractalkine enhances intracellular calcium levels in microglia, an effect that can be inhibited by blocking the CX3CR1 receptor.
