Target Information

Steroid 5-alpha-reductase 1 (SRD5A1) is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in steroid metabolism. Bovine 3-OXO-5-Alpha-Steroid 4-Dehydrogenase 1 is encoded by the SRD5A1 gene in cattle. It catalyzes the conversion of testosterone into the more potent androgen, dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is essential for the development and maintenance of male secondary sexual characteristics, including facial hair growth, voice deepening, and prostate function. The SRD5A1 gene has been identified as a differentially expressed gene in the biological processes for backfat thickness of Nellore cattle.

Target/Biomarker Bovine SRD5A1
Target Synonym steroid 5 alpha-reductase 1; S5AR 1; 3-oxo-5-alpha-steroid 4-dehydrogenase 1; SR type 1
