Target Information
Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) is an organic compound that belongs to the class of amine oxides. TMAO consists of a trimethylamine group (three methyl groups attached to a nitrogen atom) and an oxygen atom. TMAO is a product of the oxidation of trimethylamine, a common metabolite of choline in animals. It is a gut microbial-derived metabolite that has been suggested as a potential regulator of human health. Feeding might reduce serum concentrations of TMAO over a 12-hour period in cats.
