Target Information
Carnosine is a dipeptide molecule, made up of the amino acids beta-alanine and histidine. Carnosine is naturally produced by the body in the liver from beta-alanine and histidine. It is highly concentrated in muscle and brain tissues. It acts as an intramuscular buffer, helping to maintain the pH range in animal muscles, scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and protects against oxidative stress. In the brain, it serves as a neurotransmitter. Carnosine has anti-glycation and antioxidant properties, such as scavenging reactive oxygen species and chelating metal ions.
