Target Information
β-Endorphin (beta-EP) is an endogenous opioid neuropeptide and peptide hormone that is produced in certain neurons within the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. It has been suggested that endogenous opioids like beta-endorphin, act to depress respiration in the fetus and newborn. Research has shown that high concentrations of beta-EP in plasma or cerebrospinal fluid do not totally suppress fetal breathing directly in the fetal lamb.
