Target Information

SDMA is a methylated derivative of the amino acid L-arginine, primarily produced during intranuclear protein methylation. Unlike its isomer ADMA, SDMA is almost exclusively excreted by the kidneys, making it a highly specific endogenous marker for renal function. In veterinary and clinical medicine, SDMA levels rise earlier than creatinine during the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). It serves as a sensitive indicator of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) changes, independent of muscle mass or diet.
