Target Information

Glutathione S-transferase omega-1 (GSTO1) exhibits several enzymatic activities, including glutathione-dependent thiol transferase, dehydroascorbate reductase, and S-(phenacyl)glutathione reductase activities. It also possesses glutathione S-transferase activity. GSTO1 participates in the biotransformation of inorganic arsenic, reducing monomethylarsonic acid (MMA) and dimethylarsonic acid. In mice, GSTO1 serves various biological functions, such as antioxidant defense, inflammation regulation, and cell survival pathway regulation, while also engaging in metabolic and biotransformation processes. As an omega-type glutathione transferase, GSTO1 catalyzes the reduction of monomethylarsenate, the rate-limiting step in arsenic biotransformation. Additionally, GSTO1 is involved in regulating the release of intracellular calcium ions, protecting cells from apoptosis due to calcium ion overload by influencing the activity of Ryanodine receptors (RyR1) in skeletal muscle.
