Target Information

Rat glycoprotein A33 (GpA33) is a 43-kDa trans-membrane mucin-type glycoprotein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. Restricted to the apical surface of intestinal epithelial cells, it acts as an intrinsic junctional stabilizer, maintaining monolayer integrity and regulating nutrient absorption. Its extracellular Ig-like domains mediate homophilic adhesion, while its short cytoplasmic tail links to PDZ scaffolds that modulate cytoskeletal dynamics. Expression is highest in the distal ileum and colon, making GpA33 a reliable marker of differentiated enterocytes. As a key guardian of gut barrier function and epithelial polarity, GpA33 is an important target for studies of inflammatory bowel disease, mucosal repair, and colorectal biology.
