Target Information

Mouse perilipin 1 (PLIN1) is a 55-kDa lipid droplet (LD)-associated protein exclusively expressed in murine white and brown adipose tissue. It forms a protective coat around LDs, regulating lipolysis by interacting with adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) and hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL). Critical for maintaining lipid storage homeostasis and energy balance in mice, it modulates triglyceride synthesis, LD maturation, and lipolytic enzyme access to LD cores. Dysregulated expression associates with obesity, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndrome in murine models, as impaired PLIN1 function disrupts adipose tissue lipid handling. As a key mediator of adipocyte lipid metabolism, mouse PLIN1 is a critical target for studying metabolic pathobiology and developing therapeutics for obesity-related disorders.
