Target Information

Rat Amylase, Alpha 2A (AMY2A) is a secreted calcium-metallo-enzyme that catalyzes random hydrolysis of α-1,4-glycosidic bonds in dietary starch and glycogen, yielding maltose and limit dextrins. It is synthesized almost exclusively in pancreatic acinar cells, stored in zymogen granules, and released into the duodenum in response to hormonal and neuronal cues. The 55 kDa glycoprotein is readily detected in pancreatic tissue, serum, and saliva, serving as a reliable marker for exocrine pancreatic mass and secretory capacity. Antibodies to rat AMY2A enable specific localization and quantification of amylase activity in tissue sections, pancreatic juice, and biological fluids without cross-reactivity to salivary isoforms.
