Target Information
Mouse insulin receptor substrate 1 (IRS1) is a 124-kDa cytoplasmic adaptor protein ubiquitously expressed in murine tissues, with enriched levels in liver, muscle, and adipose tissue. It mediates signaling downstream of insulin/IGF-1 receptors via tyrosine phosphorylation, recruiting effector molecules to activate PI3K-AKT and MAPK pathways. Key functions include regulating glucose uptake, glycogen synthesis, cell proliferation, and metabolic homeostasis in mice. Critical for maintaining insulin sensitivity and embryonic development, its dysregulation associates with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cancer in murine models. As a central mediator of insulin/IGF-1 signaling networks, mouse IRS1 is a critical target for studying metabolic pathobiology and developing therapeutics for diabetes and metabolic disorders.
