Target Information
Mouse fibroblast growth factor 8, androgen-induced (FGF8) is a 23-kDa secreted growth factor predominantly expressed in murine androgen-sensitive tissues (prostate, testis) and developing embryos. It signals via FGF receptors (FGFRs) to activate PI3K-AKT and MAPK pathways, regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and tissue morphogenesis. Critical for murine prostate development, spermatogenesis, and embryonic limb/pattern formation, it modulates androgen-dependent tissue homeostasis. Dysregulated overexpression associates with prostate cancer progression, tumor angiogenesis, and developmental defects in mouse models, as aberrant signaling drives malignant transformation. As a key mediator of androgen-responsive growth signaling, mouse FGF8 is a critical target for studying prostate pathobiology, developmental biology, and anti-androgen/anti-cancer therapeutics.
