Target Information

Rat Ribonuclease Inhibitor (RI) is a cytosolic ~50 kDa leucine-rich repeat protein that forms tight 1:1 complexes with pancreatic-type ribonucleases, blocking their RNA-degrading activity. It shields cellular RNA from adventitious RNase exposure, balances RNA turnover, and maintains overall mRNA stability. RI is abundant in liver, lung, and brain, and its redox-sensitive cysteines allow reversible inhibition, linking RNase control to oxidative status. Antibodies against RI enable quantification and sub-cellular mapping of this endogenous RNase safeguard in rat models of inflammation, ischemia, and RNA metabolism.
