Rat RAR-related orphan receptor gamma (RORγ) is a nuclear transcription factor that binds retinoic acid-related ligands to control gene expression. It is essential for differentiation of IL-17-producing T-helper cells and lymphoid tissue inducer cells, directing cytokine profiles and immune organogenesis. RORγ also regulates circadian rhythms and hepatic lipid metabolism. As a key driver of pro-inflammatory pathways and metabolic programs, it is an important target for studies of autoimmunity, lymphocyte biology, and metabolic disease.
