Mouse Complement Component 8b (C8b) is the pore-forming beta subunit of the membrane attack complex (MAC). Upon C5b-7 assembly, C8b binds the nascent complex, anchors it to target membranes, and initiates C9 polymerization, creating lytic pores essential for eliminating pathogens. C8b is expressed in serum, liver, and immune tissues, and its detection reflects complement activation in infection, inflammation, and neuroinflammatory models. Antibodies against C8b enable precise localization and quantification of MAC assembly in mouse studies.
