Target Information
Mouse angiotensin I converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a 80-kDa transmembrane metallopeptidase predominantly expressed in mouse lung, heart, kidney, and intestinal epithelial cells. It regulates the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) by cleaving angiotensin II to angiotensin-(1-7), balancing vasoconstriction/vasodilation and reducing tissue inflammation. As a key entry receptor for coronaviruses (e.g., SARS-CoV, SARS-CoV-2) in mice, it mediates viral attachment and cell entry. Critical for murine cardiovascular homeostasis, fluid balance, and mucosal barrier function, its dysregulation links to hypertension, heart failure, and viral pathogenesis. As a dual-function mediator of RAS and viral entry, mouse ACE2 is a critical target for studying cardiovascular biology, inflammatory disorders, and antiviral therapeutics.
