It belongs to the collectin family, forming oligomeric structures that specifically bind mannose and other sugar moieties on the surface of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. This binding initiates the lectin complement pathway, mediating opsonization, enhancing phagocytosis by chicken immune cells, and directly neutralizing pathogens-serving as a key component of avian innate immunity.
