Target Information
Mitochondrial Uncoupling Protein 3 is encoded by the UCP3 gene in pigs. UCP3 is a member of the larger family of mitochondrial anion carrier proteins (MACP). These proteins facilitate the transfer of anions from the inner to the outer mitochondrial membrane and protons from the outer to the inner mitochondrial membrane. By doing so, they reduce the mitochondrial membrane potential, effectively uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation from ATP synthesis.
