Target Information

In mice, proenkephalin plays roles in pain regulation, motivational behavior, reward response, and diet-induced metabolic regulation. It is a precursor to endogenous opioid peptides, including metabolites like orphanin FQ (OFQ) and nocistatin. These peptides function by binding to opioid receptors, such as ORL1 receptors. Research indicates that OFQ significantly influences pain in mice, evidenced by notable licking behavior in the tail immersion hot water test, suggesting involvement in pain perception and regulation. Additionally, neurons expressing Pnoc have been identified in the medulla oblongata and amygdala of mice, regions that are closely linked to pain processing.
