Target Information
Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) is an enzyme encoded by the NNMT gene in pigs. NNMT catalyses the methylation of nicotinamide and related compounds using the methyl donor S-adenosylmethionine (SAM-e) to produce S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine (SAH) and 1-methylnicotinamide. It is involved in the metabolism of nicotinamide and other pyridine-containing compounds. Methylation of nicotinamide by NNMT and SAM-e is the main pathway for the degradation of nicotinamide leading to excretion in the urine.
