Target Information
Sequestosome-1, encoded by the Sqstm1 gene in mice, is a molecular adapter essential for selective macroautophagy, known as aggrephagy. It functions as a bridge between polyubiquitinated proteins and autophagosomes. The protein facilitates the recruitment of ubiquitinated cargo proteins to autophagosomes through multiple domains, connecting proteins and organelles at different stages of the process. SQSTM1 has a wide range of functions in mice, involving many fields such as autophagy, cellular stress response, metabolic regulation, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
