Target Information
Hydroxyproline (HYP) is an amino acid prevalent in animals, primarily associated with collagen synthesis and tissue fibrosis. As a vital component of collagen, hydroxyproline is formed from proline through hydroxylation and plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue elasticity, particularly in the development of skin, bones, and connective tissue. For instance, in a mouse model of pulmonary fibrosis, a significant increase in hydroxyproline content indicates collagen accumulation and heightened tissue fibrosis. Additionally, hydroxyproline levels serve as a biomarker for assessing tissue fibrosis states, being closely linked to the pathological conditions of liver and pulmonary fibrosis. Research has also demonstrated that hydroxyproline, especially in its dipeptide form, exhibits antidepressant-like activity in mice.
