Target Information
Presepsin is a soluble CD14 isoform produced by monocytes and macrophages through phagocytosis and subsequent digestion by the serine protease, Cathepsin D. However, LPS (lipopolysaccharide) activation alone may not suffice to trigger Presepsin production, suggesting that its expression could be regulated by factors other than just LPS stimulation. In mice, Presepsin plays a crucial role, particularly in the early diagnosis of inflammatory responses and infections. Its production mechanisms are complex, likely influenced by multiple factors. As a novel biomarker, Presepsin shows significant promise in disease diagnosis and prognosis assessment. Serving as an inflammatory marker, it can reflect the host's response to bacterial infection. In mouse models, research indicates that Presepsin levels rise rapidly following bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation, particularly in monocytes. This rapid increase coincides with the synthesis of IL-6, suggesting that Presepsin is a key indicator of early inflammatory response.
