Target Information
C-peptide is a byproduct released by the pancreas during insulin production. Elevated levels are typically linked to increased insulin secretion and enhanced activity of pancreatic beta cells. Research has demonstrated that C-peptide exerts a significant protective effect in endotoxin shock models in mice. In particular, C-peptide improved survival rates, decreased levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha, macrophage inflammatory protein-1alpha, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and keratinocyte-derived chemokine, and enhanced the phosphorylation of activated mitogen-associated protein kinase. These findings suggest that C-peptide's anti-inflammatory effects are mediated through the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma.
