Target Information

Apolipoprotein B is a crucial protein component of chylomicrons (apo B-48), LDL (apo B-100), and VLDL (apo B-100). Apo B-100 serves as a recognition signal for the cellular binding and internalization of LDL particles via the apoB/E receptor. ApoB is predominantly synthesized in the liver and small intestine, acting as a core structural protein for VLDL and chylomicrons. These lipoproteins are essential for transporting fatty acids from the liver to various body parts and for the absorption of dietary fat and fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A and E, in the small intestine. For instance, in mice, ApoB expression in the liver is vital for VLDL assembly, while its expression in the small intestine is crucial for chylomicron formation.
