Target Information
The Aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT) is essential for the activity of the Ah (dioxin) receptor. It facilitates the movement of the ligand-binding subunit from the cytosol to the nucleus following ligand binding. This complex then triggers the transcription of genes involved in activating PAH procarcinogens. ARNT is pivotal for maintaining glucose and lipid balance in the mouse liver. Research indicates that mice with a hepatocyte-specific knockout of ARNT (LARNT) show symptoms such as hyperglycemia, decreased insulin sensitivity, lower hepatic ATP levels, and elevated postprandial serum triglyceride levels. These alterations closely resemble the symptoms observed in individuals with type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
