Target Information

Inhibin Subunit Beta A is encoded by the INHBA gene in horses. Inhibins and activins are regulatory proteins that modulate the secretion of follitropin by the pituitary gland, with inhibins reducing and activins increasing its release. These proteins are involved in a variety of physiological processes based on their subunit composition. They regulate functions such as hormone secretion by the hypothalamus and pituitary, gonadal hormone production, development and maturation of germ cells, erythroid cell differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, bone growth, and embryonic axial development. Inhibins generally counteract the functions of activins.
