Target Information
Phosphatidylcholine-Sterol Acyltransferase is encoded by the LCAT gene in pigs. LCAT is synthesized mainly in the liver and secreted into plasma. LCAT is involved in the extracellular metabolism of plasma lipoproteins. Its primary function is to transport cholesterol out of the blood and tissues. This enzyme shows a marked preference for the 2-acyl position and for long-chain unsaturated fatty acids of natural and synthetic phosphatidylcholines in the transesterification reaction.
