Target Information
Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is one of the five major groups of lipoproteins that transport all fat molecules in extracellular water throughout the body. Lipoproteins are complex particles composed of multiple proteins and lipids (fats). Each LDL particle contains a single apolipoprotein B-100 molecule, along with other ancillary proteins. The hydrophobic core of LDL consists of polyunsaturated fatty acids, esterified and unesterified cholesterol molecules, and varying numbers of triglycerides. LDL is the major cholesterol-carrying lipoprotein in both humans and pigs.
