Target Information

C1ra serves as the initiator enzyme of the C1 complex in the complement system, playing a key role in activating the classical pathway. This activation is essential for the immune response, as the C1 complex can identify and bind to pathogen surfaces, triggering the complement cascade. In mice, the C1ra gene has been duplicated, resulting in variable expression across tissues. For instance, the C1raA and C1raS genes are predominantly expressed in the liver, while the C1raB gene is primarily expressed in the male reproductive system, such as in the coagulation glands and prostate. This diverse expression pattern indicates that C1ra may have distinct roles in different physiological and pathological contexts. In a retinal detachment (RD)-induced inflammation model, mice exhibited a significant increase in C1ra levels. This finding suggests C1ra's critical role in inflammatory responses, particularly in IL-33-deficient mice, where elevated C1ra levels may be linked to sustained inflammation.
