Target Information

Annexin A2 is a membrane-binding protein that is regulated by calcium, with its affinity for calcium significantly increased in the presence of anionic phospholipids. It can bind two calcium ions with high affinity and may play a role in the response to heat stress. In the mouse retina, Annexin A2 is involved in the phagocytic process of retinal outer segment macrophages. Its absence results in impaired phagocytic function, accumulation of phagocytic vesicles, and disruptions in related signaling pathways. In mouse models, the loss of Annexin A2 leads to impaired plasminogen activation, which subsequently affects thrombus formation and clearance.
