Target Information

Thrombospondin-4 (Thbs4) is an adhesive glycoprotein that facilitates cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions, playing a role in processes such as cellular proliferation, migration, adhesion, inflammatory responses to CNS injury, regulation of vascular inflammation, and adaptive responses of the heart to pressure overload, as well as myocardial function and remodeling. It binds to structural extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and modulates the ECM in response to tissue damage, contributing to cardioprotective and adaptive ECM remodeling. Thbs4 is involved in a wide range of biological processes, including muscle protection, ECM stability, articular cartilage protection, angiogenesis, skin repair, metabolic regulation, cardiac function, and neurological function. In Thbs4-deficient mice, muscle pathological changes, elevated serum creatine kinase levels, and reduced running ability are observed. Additionally, the thickness of articular cartilage in these mice is diminished in the short term, suggesting that Thbs4 plays a role in the short-term protection of articular cartilage. These findings underscore the multifaceted role of Thbs4 in tissue maintenance and repair.
