Target Information
Microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) facilitates the transport of triglycerides, cholesteryl esters, and phospholipids between phospholipid surfaces. In mice, MTP's functions are primarily linked to lipid metabolism and lipoprotein biosynthesis, encompassing the transport of triglycerides (TG) and phospholipids, as well as involvement in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. As a multifunctional lipid transport protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), MTP's core function is to catalyze the transfer of neutral fats, such as triglycerides, to newly synthesized apolipoprotein B (ApoB) molecules. This process facilitates the assembly and secretion of triglyceride-rich very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles.
