Target Information
1,5-Anhydroglucitol, also known as 1,5-AG, is a naturally occurring monosaccharide found in nearly all foods. It is also known as 1-deoxy-D-glucopyranose. Blood concentrations of 1,5-AG decrease during hyperglycemia. Even if other glycemic measurements (like hemoglobin A1c and blood glucose monitoring) appear normal, 1,5-AG can provide complementary information. It is a metabolically inert polyol that competes with glucose for renal reabsorption, which is a validated marker of short-term glycaemic control.
